Overview

Position: Safety Internship

Department: Safety and Environmental

Location: Gratz Operation and Support Center, Gratz, PA

Reports to: Director of Safety and Environmental Excellence

Status: Intern, Paid 

 

Purpose: Apply knowledge acquired in the classroom to real-world situations while learning about multiple aspects of the business. Provide assistance to the various site safety managers in maintaining safety and environmental excellence.

 

Responsibilities

  • Assists in maintaining company’s OSHA reports such as facility 300 logs
  • Reviews and maintains MI safety policy and procedures
  • Helps maintain and update site safety documentation such as training records, JSA’s, job descriptions, and SDS’s
  • Provides safety coverage for onsite safety managers when needed
  • Assists and participates in accident investigations
  • Assists Risk Specialist with various workers compensation reporting
  • Schedules team member appointments with panel physicians as needed
  • Assists and facilitates safety-related training
  • Assists facility VPP teams in preparing facilities for VPP evaluation
  • Assists in submitting applications for safety awards such as the PA Governor’s Award
  • Participates and reports at various managers’ meetings if needed
  • Assists safety managers with various inspections performed at each facility
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Junior or Senior pursuing post-secondary education in safety, environmental, or a related field
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with various MS Office Programs including but not limited to PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, and Visio
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Completion of freshman year at four-year institution with an area of study related to the safety field
  • Basic understanding of OSHA rules, regulations, and best practices
  • Willingness to travel between various facilities within the company
