Overview

Position: Human Resources Internship

Department: Human Resources

Location: Hegins Production Facility, Hegins, PA

Reports to: HR Manager

Status: Intern, Paid

 

General Purpose: Apply knowledge acquired in the classroom to real world situations while learning about multiple aspects of the business, as well as gain the skills and experience such as talent acquisition, succession planning, benefits, employee law and compliance, and other related aspects that are necessary to prepare the student for a successful career in human resources. Assist the Regional Human Resources Manager with on-going projects and identified assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Observes and participates in new hire orientation
  • Assists in the recruiting and hiring process: posts job openings, reviews resumes, conducts telephone and in-person interviews
  • Understands the importance of employment law and compliance, especially regarding employment eligibility, confidentiality, proper maintenance of employee files, and forms management
  • Shows understanding of the interrelationship of HR and Finance in the areas of new employee paperwork, payroll issues related to onboarding and termination, use of a payroll management database, and report generation
  • Assists with employee benefits management issues related to plan renewal and open enrollment, benefits enrollment and termination, troubleshooting employee benefit issues, and the customer service aspect of benefits oversight
  • Reviews workers comp/safety and OSHA policies
  • Develops PowerPoint presentations (ex. FMLA training, unemployment, diversity, harassment, etc.)
  • Reviews & edits job descriptions, ensures correct and consistent format, organizes and files according to organizational charts
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Current or recent enrollment in a graduate or undergraduate degree program with an interest and aptitude to work in Human Resources or non-profit management/administrative fields
  • Ability to deal with employees with diverse backgrounds
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time efficiently and effectively to complete projects and assignments timely and accurately
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal & written communication
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access
